chip

Chip is an eleven-year-old miniature poodle mix available for adoption at Animal Humane Society’s Golden Valley facility.

Chip is not your average dog. As you can see his tongue hangs out of his mouth a bit. That’s because he doesn’t have any teeth! In his old age, they’ve either fallen out or had to be extracted, but he’s still a sweet, little guy looking for a home. He recently arrived at AHS after his family could no longer afford to care for him. He’s lived with and is good with children and other animals.

If you can provide Chip a lasting second home, please visit www.animalhumanesociety.org or call (763) 522-4325 for more information.

Pets and heat. Don’t forget to keep him safe during the hot summer months. The extreme temperatures in Minnesota require pet-loving families to keep a keen eye on their pets. During peak summer temperatures it’s important to remember the following helpful tips:

  • Never leave your pets in a parked car, even with the windows open. The temperature inside the car can rise quickly in just one minute.
  • Take extra care when exercising with older dogs, short-nosed dogs, and those with thick coats. On very hot days, limit exercise to early morning or evening hours.
  • Fleas are more common in hot weather. Check your pet frequently for fleas and ticks.
  • Plan vacations carefully. It may be best to board your animals or arrange for responsible care rather than taking your animals with you.
  • Provide extra water and if your dog lives outdoors provide them with shelter from the sun.

Watch for heatstroke. Signs include excessive panting, salivation, vomiting, anxious or staring expression, fast pulse rate and, of course, high body temperature. If your animal shows any of these signs immerse him or her in cool water or pour cool water over your pet’s head. As soon as your pet cools off, take him or her to the veterinarian.

Thank God for Aunts!

This morning we talked about how important aunts are in our lives and just how important those nieces and nephews are to aunties. I found this neat poem that you might want to share with yours!

A Poem for Aunts

Goodness and care, friendship to share
Thoughful advice, all things nice
Talks on the phone, a welcoming home
Kindness and grace, gentle as lace…

That’s what Aunts are made of

Arms bearing gifts, smiles that lift
Seeker of fun, warm as the sun
Valued big sis, someone to miss
Birthday well-wisher, big ice cream disher…

That’s what Aunts are made of

Hugs filled with heart, a fan from the start
Secrets to share, laughs to spare
Words of praise, generous ways
Grown-up best friend, love never ends…

That’s what Aunts are made of

Video – David gets his head shaved

David and Pam Make Good

During our Spring Fundraiser, over a 2 hour period, KTIS listeners donated over $50,000.

David and Pam promised that if they reached the $50,000 goal, David would shave his head, and Pam would go “pink”.

Saturday afternoon, at the Joyful Noise Family Fest, Pam put on the “Pink Hair” and sported it for the rest of the day.

Later that evening, David shaved his head on the stage.
