It’s Winter Hazard Awareness Week

Most Minnesotans, through years of practice and experience, are knowledgeable about winter weather conditions. We know how to dress, drive, be active outdoors and generally get through the winter with our lives, homes and property intact. Nonetheless, deaths and injuries occur every winter because people fail to take precautions. Carelessness, overconfidence, ignorance and innocence can lead to damage, injury or death from winter weather conditions.  The local veterans’ hall may be giving way to cyberspace as a place where vets seek the companionship of others who shared their experience. Traditional vets organizations have begun online outreach and a public service campaign starting today, Veterans Day, encourages Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to log onto a new social networking site called www.CommunityofVeterans.org.

Christmas Mail for Heroes – Red Cross

 Would you like to send a holiday greeting to a GI, but aren’t sure how to do it?
    The American Red Cross can help. Together with Pitney Bowes, the Red Cross is launching its Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign today, allowing people to send their cards with a message of thanks and cheer.
    The two organizations will screen cards for hazardous materials, sort and package the cards, and deliver them to military bases and hospitals, veteran’s hospitals, and other locations during the holidays.
    Greetings must be received by December tenth to insure delivery by Christmas.
