A bill recognizing Vietnam War veterans is signed into law this afternoon — and it’s just in time. The bill marks March 29th — which falls on Saturday this year — as Vietnam Veterans Day. The date was chosen because the last U.S. ground troops left the Asian country on March 29, 1973.
The National Archives and a Web site are teaming up to put the records of Vietnam War veterans online for the first time. The site is an online re-creation of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the National Mall in Washington D.C. The site allows access to thousands of pages of casualty records and agency photos. The database can be searched by name, hometown, birthdate, tour date or dozens of other categories.
